Since He Lives, You Will Live

Jesus said in John 14:19, “Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.”
Jesus is speaking to His disciples before the cross. He is preparing them for what is coming. The world will no longer see Him because He is going to die. But He tells His disciples, “You will see Me.” This is reassurance. He is not abandoning them. Death will not be the end. The grave will not have the final word. He will rise again and show Himself alive.
This promise matters because one of the greatest fears people carry is the fear of death. People spend their lives trying to escape it, delay it, or somehow defeat it. Even now, people are trying to create ways to make themselves immortal through technology, biohacking, and the race to preserve human life as long as possible.
But for those who belong to Christ, death is not supposed to hold the same terror.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:54-55, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
That is the confidence Jesus gives to His people.
Jesus does not just promise that He will live. He says, “Since I live, you also will live.” That means the resurrection of Jesus is not only something we believe happened to Him. It is the foundation of what is promised to us.
Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.” That is life after death. That is the promise of heaven. The believer does not step from life into nothing. The believer steps from this life into the presence of God.
But eternal life is not only someday. Jesus also said in John 17:3, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
That means eternal life is not just heaven after you die. Eternal life begins with knowing Him now.
Jesus reassures us on both sides of eternity. On this side, we can know Him, walk with Him, and live in the life He gives. On the other side, we will be with Him forever.
The world may see death as the end.
But Jesus says, “Since I live, you also will live.”
