Attached People Pray Attached Prayers

Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

That promise is powerful, and it has to be understood through union.

Jesus is speaking to people who abide in Him and have His words abiding in them. This is a life where the person is connected to Christ, shaped by Christ, and surrendered to Christ.

God is a good Father. Jesus said in Matthew 7 that if earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to their children, how much more will our Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him.

So yes, we should pray boldly. We should ask for God’s blessing. We should ask for His promises. We should ask for His mighty hand to move in our lives.

But abiding also changes what we desire.

This promise does not turn prayer into something childish, like asking God to transform us into a rocket ship and leave the earth. Once we are attached to Jesus, our desires begin to reflect Him.

Our prayers begin to line up with His heart.

Attached people pray attached prayers.

The closer you walk with Jesus, the more your prayer life changes. You stop praying only from your own desires and plans. You start praying from a heart that has been shaped by His Word.

That is why Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you.” His Word has to live in us. His Word has to correct us. His Word has to shape what we ask for and what we believe for. This is decision and action. We accept His Word. We apply His Word by faith. We grow in following Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing what Jesus would do.

Prayer was never meant to be detached from discipleship.

As we remain in Him, we learn how to ask from Him.

And because He is a good Father, we can ask with confidence.
