DO YOU HAVE A TEACHABLE SPIRIT?
Jeremiah 32:32
Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah which they have done to provoke Me to anger-they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And they have turned their backs to Me and not their faces;; though I taught them persistently, yet they would not listen and receive instruction.
We can be taught by God Himself, and still not receive instruction. The Bible is full of scriptures that tell us the importance of being teachable. We can hear the Word and even believe the Word, but be so set in our own ways of thinking and doing, that we don’t become doers of what we are hearing. It is so easy to become set in our ways. Whether we were raised a particular way or the hardships of life formed us into a particular pattern and we don’t see that we are wrong. Sometimes what we think is right, we can actually back it up with some truth that we are being ‘spiritual’ in our beliefs. Ladies, please understand that it is not what we think or feel that makes our actions correct, it is what the Word says to do that makes our way right..
Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death.
What makes our lives peaceful and blessed is when we become doers of the Word and not just hearers only. One of the most difficult things we cam do in this lifetime is be honest with ourselves in regards to our own faults. Being truthful with ourselves is what brings healing and success into our lives, not when we look into the faults of others. Then when we are honest and admit our ways of thinking that do not line up with the Word, we have the awesome privilege of going before the Throne of God and confessing our faults and shortcomings to Him. He is faithful to bring His Word to pass in our lives when we are honest and we become willing to change into His image. God loves us so much that He is not willing to leave us the same. He is every wanting to teach us, to train us, to renew our minds according to His Word and bring about change in our actions..
James 1:22-25
But be doers of the Word [obey the message] and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror; For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like. But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the law of liberty and is faithful to it and preservers in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer who obeys he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).
Being a doer of the Word takes discipline and determination. Determine in yourself today that you will be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.
